Student retention can be defined as persistence – a result of factors at student entrance, student involvement in college, and student integration.

 

Student Persistence

Student persistence refers to the student’s ability or motivation to achieve his or her own educational goals.

 

Student Attrition

Student attrition is the failure to persist or the cessation of coursework and degree progression that results in a decline in the number of students engaged in a program (Nitsch, 2003).
