Trailerhead:Saga is produced by Immediate
Music, a music
company that has actually had its music appear in a number of major
motion
picture trailers, such as Iron Man, Kingdom of Heaven, the Matrix films
and the
Harry Potter films. Trailerhead:Saga is an excellent example of trailer
music,
following a format that has been
replicated by others but few as well as the songs produced by Immediate
Music. The great trailer music albums encompass a
broad range of
emotions, always including a little bit of everything—a lot of
the bombastic “battle”
music, sprinkled with a few soft and gentle sequences, altogether
eliciting a
large range of emotions. Trailerhead:Saga follows this pattern,
presenting many
strong, impactful orchestral compositions that drive home the idea of
strength
and power. This theme of powerful, choral songs are communicated in
their
titles: “Hymnus Orbis,” “Invictus,”
“Ashes of War.” However, this
album has other songs that
present more of a pasture of a battle, with tunes such as “Oratio
Sanctus” and “Salvation
for a Proud Nation.” The last song mentioned, Salvation for A
Proud Nation, is
one of my all-time favorite trailer songs. It elicits feelings of both
beauty
and power. Whenever I hear the song, I see it as the background music
for one
of the most beautiful and powerful passages in the Bible: Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for
the first
heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.
And I saw the holy city, new
Jerusalem, coming
down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her
husband. And
I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the
tabernacle of God is
among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people,
and God
Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their
eyes;
and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any
mourning, or
crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” And He who sits
on
the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”.
(Revelation 21:1-5) That is the effect of a great trailer song: it leads you to imagine the story in your own head, whatever that story may be. Trailerhead:Saga is an above-average trailer album, highlighted by a fantastic song. |
